What is a Legacy Portrait?

Historically it is a portrait of a person left to be remembered by, as in a will, made deliberately for this purpose for family members and friends. But nowadays it refers to any picture that represents how you want people to think of you.

Before photography those who could afford it commissioned an artist, and portraits ranged from massive oil paintings down to miniature watercolours.

Early photographers replaced artists quickly because multiple copies could be made. We have probably all seen some of these stiff and formal Victorian era photos.

Formal pictures of special occasions are rare nowadays because of the ease of taking limitless numbers of pictures and videos on camera phones.

For most people this satisfies all photographic needs but it has resulted in some unexpected consequences.

Most of us have too many photographs and the really good ones have got lost in the crowd, so which is the photograph people are going to remember you by? You need prints, not a dgital image on somebody's camera!

Not everyone is in the fortunate position of having close friends and family to take such pictures. A few do not have any pictures at all.

If you are in that position and want a memorable picture, my service is for you. Or maybe you know somebody it applies to and you want to remedy the situation so that you have a special  portrait  to remember them by.

The picture is my Mum. She wasn't a smoker or much of a drinker but she loved having fun and a bit of a laugh. So the barrel of sherry and a little cigar in her hand captured her character perfectly. For me it is a perfect legacy portrait of her.
